Where are you based?
I’m based in Portobello in Edinburgh. I have a young family and portobello with it’s beach is a great place to be with kids.
Are willing to travel?
Absolutely. Although I’m very familiar with Edinburgh venues, I often travel further afield to take wedding photographs. Some destinations include: Glasgow, Loch Lomond, Aberdeen, Cumbria and Switzerland. Twice.
How many weddings do you photograph a year?
I really believe that if you, as a photographer, churn out weddings, you will lose the interest and passion for wedding photography. Because of that, I will not take more than twenty bookings per year.
What style of work do you shoot?
I like to take natural photographs, using as much natural light as possible. When flash and lights have to come out, I use them off-camera or bounce them to simulate natural light.
Can we meet you before the wedding to discuss our requirements?
Absolutely! I always recommend meeting over a cup of tea or coffee for a chat. That’s when you can ask me as many questions as you can and we can go through your day in more detail. Most importantly, It’ll give us a chance to get to know each other before your wedding day.
How long do you stay on the day?
I have a couple of different packages, which you can choose from. Most commonly I would come to see the girls in the morning, taking pictures of the preparations and the dress, shoes, flowers etc. I would take your wedding day pictures up to and including the speeches, regardless whether they’re before or after the food. Naturally, if you wish, I can stay and capture the first dance and the party. My packages are explained here.
Are there any additional costs?
I don’t believe in hidden costs. I’ll advise you on the best (and most cost effective) albums and photo printing services. I can also help with album design but everything is clearly explained in the packages section.
How many photographs do you take during the day?
Many. It’s a busy day for me and I’ll come away with hundreds of photographs. I like to capture special moments and the little details, which I hope you will love to see when you get the pictures. I don’t believe in giving you only a handful of photographs. You’ve paid me to be there and I’ll give you a lot of pictures. I’ll upload them all onto a password-protected online gallery, a link to which you can send to your fiends and family. You’ll then receive a bunch of DVDs with the pictures.
Do you take any formal and group photographs?
Yes I do. Please bear in mind that the more formal pictures you have, the longer it takes. I’d rather take less and let you guys enjoy the day and capture natural pictures of everyone having a good time! It’s really up to you though. It’s your day.
Do you offer black and white photographs?
I’ll select a number of pictures for black and white treatment. Sometime the lighting and situation just lends to it perfectly! I’m happy to do any on request for no extra charge. Just let me know.
When will we able to see our photographs?
I usually say within 4 weeks but I always hope to turn them around much quicker as I know how keen you’ll be to see them.
How about payment?
A 50% deposit on appointment and the balance once you’re happy with your pictures. I’ll send you proper invoices and paperwork.
Why should I hire you?
I love photography. I’m not one of those people who just go through the motions. I love it and I hope that shows in both my enthusiasm on the day and the quality of pictures.
